The corridor is filling in
The clearest signal came in late June, when local reporting confirmed three new Carencro businesses in the pipeline at once: Walk-On's, KK's Café and Grounded Coffee are all preparing to open new locations in Carencro. Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux opened first. A grand opening date of Monday, July 20, 2026 was set, making it the second Acadiana location of Walk-On's, joining the longtime first location at 2336 Kaliste Saloom Rd in Lafayette. The build itself is worth a beat of attention if you drive past the site. Construction is complete on the new Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux, located at 3520 NE Evangeline Thruway (I-49) in Carencro, and it sits in front of the Center Square shopping center, which includes Great American Cookie, Marble Slab, Wing Stop, and The UPS Store. What makes this location different from the one on Kaliste Saloom is the footprint. The Carencro location is one of the first Walk-On's restaurants built using the company's newest "Gator" prototype. The updated design features a smaller footprint than previous locations while making more efficient use of the available space. The new prototype also incorporates a dedicated to-go area, improved acoustics, and a layout designed to maximize seating and the overall guest experience. Roughly half the square footage of the original 10,000-square-foot model, per the developer coverage, which is why the building went up as quickly as it did.

Grounded Coffee is the one worth flagging for anyone who has been driving to Reve or Rêve-adjacent options. Grounded Coffee will be located at 3414 N. University Avenue in Carencro. The building once housed Scott Oak Cleaners. This will also be the second location of Grounded Coffee. The other location is at 832 Napoleon Avenue in Sunset.
